Choosing the Best
School for Your Child
If you were unable to attend one of our training sessions, you can access
the information we covered below.
1) determining your school options
When choosing a school it is important to understand that one school does
not fit all. Before consideration can be
made, you should identify your child’s specific needs. In this session, you
will learn how to assess your child’s needs and how to use that information to
choose a school type. You will walk away
understanding whether a private, public, charter or religious school might be a
good fit for your learner.
Our Parent/Student Profile (English) is a great tool for you to use outside of this training.
2) Narrowing the options
Houston and the surrounding area are home to over 500 schools, and the
options are many. Now that you have
narrowed your focus on what "type" of school might be the right fit
for your child, it is time to research specific schools. This training session teaches
parents the questions to ask when visiting a school as well as how to research
and use information found on the internet to determine which schools best meet
your child's needs
Use our School Questionnaire (English/Spanish) when researching schools.
3) conducting school visits
This session is geared to exploring the importance of conducting a school
visit and the impact it has on the school choice process. Parents are armed
with questions to ask and key items to observe while while touring a school.
For
your next school visit, download our School Visit Handout (English/Spanish).
